Misc. Notes
[Jo] and all of the family traveled to Kentucky during the depression to find work.... Your grandfather Jo headed for the west coast...it may have been directly from Durand or from Kentucky, I don't know which. This would have been about the same time that he and Grace had first met. I believe she was from the west coast.4
Misc. Notes
I remember your grandfather Jo very well. Jo and Grace visited Michigan when I was a young boy in the mid-60's and I recall he picked me up by my ankles and spun me round and round which I highly enjoyed! I was a rather slight, somewhat sickly little kid then as I had asthma quite severely as a child. (Though you wouldn't know it to see me today!) Part of my affection for Uncle Jo is that he didn't treat me like a sickly child. I'm not sure my mother ever knew that he had twirled me like that and it was probably just as well. That was our "secret" and, as I recall, he suggested that we keep it that way! There was a certain amount of devilish behavior in your grandfather!! I believe that he inherited that from his father, based on stories that I have heard about my Grandfather Clark.

Later on, 1967 I think [Clark agreed later that it must have been no later than 19664], we flew out to Seattle and stayed with Uncle Jo and Aunt Grace for a few days while visiting my grandma Verna who was in a nursing home by that time. I don't believe that I saw Uncle Jo again after that. It was quite a shock when he died at an early age and my father was deeply saddened. He and Jo had been quite close growing up and, though they had been geographically apart for a long time, I had the sense that they were still very close.5
